Overview
Some firewalls are very sensitive, and block access to connections on a specific port/protocol. That's a good thing, it means your security system is working as intended. Your network will remain safe that way.
Changing your Default Port can help increase reliability if you're having trouble connecting, or unblock the connection if a certain port/protocol combination is blocked by your Internet Provider or security system.
Windows
By default, the port is selected automatically by cycling through each of the options, and keeping the last successful port saved in memory. You can also select the port manually to help increase reliability.
This feature is entirely optional, it is not required in order to be protected.

How to change the default port on your Windows computer:

Linux (Coming soon)
Our new Linux app is not yet available, but it will be coming soon to both Debian and Arch based platforms. Don't hesitate to contact us and we'll be more than happy to notify you via email when the new Linux app is available for download.
In the meanwhile, you can install our Legacy Linux application or one of our Chrome/Firefox/Opera browser extensions instead. That will allow you to stay protected until the new version of our Linux app becomes available.
The extensions only protect what's inside of your browser. They will not protect the other programs running on your device. To protect all of your online activity, our desktop/mobile app is recommended.
Common Questions
Do I need to change the port if I'm connected?
Answer: No, in most cases you do not need to adjust this option. It is only recommended if you're having trouble staying connected, or are instructed to do so by our support team.
Why can't I see this option on my device?
Answer: We'll be adding this option to more devices very soon, including macOS, Apple iOS, Linux, and more. Contact us for more detailed information.
