How to Exclude specific Files or Folders

Overview

When you allow (or exclude) a specific file or folder, it will be ignored and treated as safe when it is scanned. Exclusions will be applied to Scheduled Scans, Manual Scans, as well as Active Protection.

Even if the file contains threats, it will be completely overlooked by VirtualShield Antivirus. Allowing files essentially defeats the purpose of using an Antivirus so it is not recommended. Do so at your own risk.

Windows

Some apps and files may appear harmless at first glance, but they can contain invisible adware or malware hidden in disguise. Use these items at your own risk.

If you are positive that a particular app or file can be trusted, or if it is getting falsely detected and Quarantined by our system, you can try adding it to your Allow list.

Only allow files if you are absolutely sure that you can trust the source. This can expose your device to viruses and malware, if you mistakenly allow an unsafe file.

Manage Allowed Files

How to manage Allowed Files on your Windows computer:
1

Open VirtualShield Antivirus and unlock the full version, if you have not done so already.

For more help getting started with the Antivirus, see our support article.
2

Click the Always allowed icon on the Home/Status screen.

If you can’t find this option, click the status icon on the sidebar to return to the Home/Status screen.

3

You can add or remove excluded apps and files from this screen.

Advanced users can also use filters and wildcards to exclude  multiple locations at the same time.

Common Questions

Why can’t I exclude certain files or folders?
There are a few system directories that are reserved by your Operating System, and off-limits to the Antivirus. If you can’t add a particular file or folder to your Allow list, this is likely the reason why.
Can I exclude files with a given type/extension?
Yes, you can! You can either do this by using filters and wildcards (ex: *.zip), or by managing Excluded archive types (coming soon!). Contact our support team for more information.
