Changing your Default Port

Overview

Some firewalls can be very sensitive, and block access to outgoing connections on a specific port or protocol. It means your security system is working as intended. Your network will remain safe that way.

Changing your Default Port can help increase reliability, or unblock the connection if a certain port/protocol combination is being blocked by your Internet Provider or security system.

Windows

By default, this port is selected automatically by cycling through each of the options one at a time, and keeping the last successful port saved in memory.

However, you can change your Default Port manually to increase reliability if you are unable to establish or maintain the VPN connection for long periods of time.

It is not necessary to change the Default Port manually unless you’re having trouble connecting, or you are instructed to do so by our support team.

This feature comes included with all of our Basic/Plus/Ultimate plans.
5

Choose your desired option, then click the back arrow to return to the VPN screen.

  • Last successful port (Recommended) The port will be chosen automatically based on the last successful connection.
  • 51820 The core advantage of this port is its lightning fast performance and security.
  • 1194 If you are behind a firewall, this port can help communicate with outside peers.
  • 2049, etc. These ports are only recommended if you are instructed by our support team.

You may need to re-connect to the VPN after saving this setting before the changes will be applied.

Common Questions

Does it matter which port I choose?
No, in most cases it doesn’t matter which port you choose. If you do change the port, we recommend using port 51820 or 1194 to establish the fastest, and most reliable connection to our network.
Why can’t I see this option on my device?
It is likely you have an old/legacy version of our app installed. We recommend downloading the latest version from our website to take advantage of the new VPN technology, and all of the new security services we offer.
I still can’t connect to the VPN, what should I do?
First we recommend following each of the steps in our Troubleshooting article to see if it solves the issue. If that doesn’t work, contact our support team for assistance.
