Disabling your Webcam/Microphone

When you disable your webcam and/or microphone with VirtualShield, it will be completely disabled at the hardware level and block all access until the device is enabled again.
This helps protect your system by preventing websites and other software from accessing these devices without your permission.

Note: To disable a different device, first reset your default audio device from the "Windows Recording Devices" dialogue.

This feature is included with all of our IdentiSafe plan(s). Currently only available in the Windows application. Coming soon to other devices.

To disable your webcam, follow the instructions below:

  1. Open VirtualShield and select the "IdentiSafe" tab from the left-side pane.
  2. Select the "Disable Webcam" option.

To disable your microphone, follow the instructions below:

  1. Open VirtualShield and select the "IdentiSafe" tab from the left-side pane.
  2. Select the "Disable Microphone" option.
