Can I use the app and the browser extension at the same time?

Yes, you can! However this is entirely up to you, it is not required. You only need to install one or the other, the app or the extension. You don't need both.
If you try to connect using both at the same time it may decrease your connection speed(s). It will also count as an additional device on your plan.
There are two different versions of VirtualShield available, our desktop/mobile applications and our Chrome/Firefox/Opera extensions.
The application will protect and encrypt your entire internet connection. This includes all of the software on your device, such as games, web browsers, e-mail, and any other third-party applications that connect to the web.

All of your browsers will be protected by the app. The extensions will only protect what's inside of your browser. For example, the Google Chrome extension will not protect Mozilla Firefox.
The extensions will not protect the other software running on your device like the app does.

The desktop/mobile application also includes additional customization options and configuration settings you can adjust to suit your specific needs.

Which version should I choose?

As long as you're running Windows 7 or later, or macOS X 10.11 or later on your computer, the desktop app is recommended.
The extensions were mostly designed for older computers and Operating Systems, such as Windows XP and Vista.

If you're using a mobile device, our Android app is compatible with Android 4.2.1 and above. Our iOS app is compatible with Apple iOS 9.0 and above.

You can download all of our apps and extensions for all of your various devices here:
